Writing, replying & forwarding

Writing a new message

Select Compose in the header. Fill in:

  • From — pick which of your mailboxes to send as (only addresses assigned to you are offered).
  • To — one or more addresses, separated by commas.
  • Select the small Cc or Bcc links next to To to show those fields.
  • Subject and Message.
  • Attachments — up to 5 files, 25 MB total. Choose files or drop them onto the attach box.

Select Send. The button is greyed out while it's working, so a slow connection can't turn one tap into two sends — and the screen tells you right away whether it went through or not.

Replying and forwarding

While reading a message, choose Reply, Reply all, or Forward. The To, subject and quoted original text are filled in for you — edit anything before sending. Forwarding a message with attachments offers to include the originals; untick that box to leave them off. Replies and forwards can carry their own new attachments too, with the same 5-file, 25 MB limit.

Selecting Send shows a message right at the top of the screen — "Sent to …" or "Not sent: …" with the reason — so you don't have to scroll down to the bottom of a long conversation to find out whether it worked.

Drafts

Anything you start writing is saved automatically a couple of seconds after you stop typing — no need to select anything. Find your drafts with the Drafts button above your mailbox list; opening one lets you finish and send it, or discard it from there.

Signatures

Two kinds, and the more specific one wins:

  1. Your personal signature — set it once in Your settings (the gear icon in the header). It's added to the bottom of every new message you write.
  2. A mailbox's own signature — your account owner or domain manager can set one for a shared mailbox (for example, a support desk). If a mailbox has its own signature, messages sent from it use that one instead of your personal signature — so a shared desk always signs as the desk, no matter who's answering.

Switching the From address while composing swaps the signature at the bottom of your draft to match.
