Mailboxes
A mailbox is one receiving address, like [email protected]. By default, mail to
any address on a domain you've set up here creates a mailbox for it automatically,
the first time mail arrives — you don't have to create one in advance.
Creating several at once
In the admin panel's Add a mailbox box (or the domain's own setup page), type one or more addresses separated by commas, spaces or new lines, then select Create inboxes. You'll be told exactly how many were created or restored out of how many you typed, and which ones (if any) weren't valid addresses, so nothing fails silently.
Deleting a mailbox
Deleting a mailbox (from the admin panel or the domain's setup page):
- Stops it collecting new mail — anything sent to it afterward is dropped, not kept.
- Keeps everything it already had for 7 days. Restore it within that window (Restore, next to the deleted mailbox) to get every message back.
- After 7 days, restoring the address just creates an empty mailbox again — the old mail is gone for good.
Downloading a mailbox
Select Download a mailbox, pick an address, and you'll get every message in it as
a .zip of .eml files — one file per message, openable in any mail program.
Locking the mailbox list
By default, the toggle under Mailboxes on a domain's setup page reads Lock the mailbox list — right now, mail to a misspelled or made-up address on your domain still creates a mailbox for it. Once every mailbox you actually need exists, tap that toggle:
- It now reads Mailbox list locked: mail to any address that isn't already one of your mailboxes is dropped instead of creating a new one. Dropped addresses are listed (with how many times mail to each was dropped), and you can select Create this mailbox on one at any time to start accepting it.
- Tap it again to go back to unlocked — any address on the domain resumes auto-creating a mailbox on first mail.
Locking never affects mail already delivered — only what happens to new mail to an address you don't have a mailbox for yet.
